Suba South MP Caroli Omondi has ignited a fresh political controversy after making sensational allegations against President William Ruto, claiming that the Head of State intends to introduce Ebola into the Mt Kenya region following growing political resistance from residents ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a political gathering under the Linda Mwananchi Movement, Omondi alleged that the President was targeting the vote-rich region after losing support among its residents.
The lawmaker's remarks quickly drew attention online and among political observers due to the seriousness of the claims.
"President William Ruto anataka kuleta Ebola alafu aipeleke Nanyuki kwa sababu Mt Kenya Region imemkataa. Sisi kama Linda Mwananchi Movement tumeamua tunaenda Thika kufanya rally kubwa ndio ajue tumeingia uko," Omondi declared.
The MP's comments come amid intensifying political realignments as leaders begin positioning themselves for the 2027 elections.
The Mt Kenya region, widely regarded as one of Kenya's most influential voting blocs, has increasingly become a battleground for competing political interests, with various leaders seeking to consolidate support.
Omondi's statement has generated mixed reactions, with supporters viewing it as a reflection of growing dissatisfaction with the government, while critics have dismissed the remarks as inflammatory political rhetoric lacking evidence.
Others have called for restraint in political discourse, warning against the spread of claims that could trigger public fear or unnecessary anxiety.
The allegations have also renewed debate about the state of Kenya's political landscape, where sharp exchanges between government and opposition figures have become increasingly common.
Analysts note that as the country edges closer to the next electoral cycle, political messaging is expected to become even more aggressive.
As of now, neither President Ruto nor State House has publicly responded to Omondi's claims.
However, the remarks have already intensified political discussions and are likely to remain a topic of debate in the coming days.
