Shock and grief have engulfed residents of Kapchumba in Eldoret City after a domestic dispute turned deadly, leaving a 29-year-old man dead and his former boyfriend in police custody.
The 42-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday night after she allegedly stabbed the man during a confrontation inside their house in Uasin Gishu County.
Police say the argument reportedly began over a blanket that belonged to the deceased.
According to preliminary investigations, the man had earlier bought the blanket and later gifted it to the woman while they were in a relationship.
However, tensions between the two had reportedly been growing for months due to repeated disagreements and frequent quarrels witnessed by neighbours.
Residents said the situation escalated when the man returned to the house and attempted to take back the blanket.
During the heated exchange, the woman is alleged to have picked up a knife and stabbed him.
Neighbours described the couple as troubled and said they often engaged in loud arguments that disturbed the area.
Some residents claimed the woman had previously threatened to harm the deceased during past confrontations.
Witnesses further stated that the pair had lived together for about a year and were regularly seen arguing in public.
Others said the woman appeared emotionally disturbed in recent days and had repeatedly spoken about attacking the man.
Police officers from the nearby station rushed to the scene after receiving reports from residents.
The victim was pronounced dead before he could receive medical assistance.
His body was later moved to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, awaiting postmortem examination.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect was arrested at the scene and is currently being held at Eldoret Central Police Station as investigations continue.
Detectives are now processing evidence from the house and recording statements from witnesses to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
