During a light-hearted Senate session on Thursday, Edwin Sifuna left both senators and visiting students laughing after making a humorous remark about Samson Cherargei.
The Senate had hosted a group of students from Kajiado County who visited Parliament to learn how the House operates and how leaders debate national matters.
As the students watched proceedings from the gallery, senators took turns welcoming and encouraging them to focus on their studies and leadership ambitions.
While addressing the students, Sifuna congratulated them for taking time to visit the Senate and challenged them to work hard in school so they could one day become leaders and sit in the same chamber. He noted that leadership opportunities were open to anyone determined to pursue their dreams.
However, the atmosphere quickly turned hilarious when Sifuna jokingly observed that many current senators did not appear interested in remaining in the Senate for very long. He then playfully added that the only exception seemed to be Senator Cherargei.
The unexpected comment instantly sparked laughter across the chamber. Senators, parliamentary staff, and even the visiting students burst into laughter as Cherargei himself appeared amused by the joke.
The moment offered a rare glimpse into the lighter side of Kenyan politics, where leaders known for sharp political exchanges can still share jokes and friendly banter.
Sifuna has built a reputation for his witty and outspoken contributions during debates, while Cherargei is widely recognized for his energetic and vocal participation in Senate discussions.
Beyond the laughter, senators encouraged the visiting students to remain disciplined in their education and prepare themselves to become Kenya’s future leaders.
