Prime Suspect In Murder of Bungoma Public Health Officer Arraigned Arraigned In Court

Police in Bungoma County have arrested a suspect linked to the killing of public health officer Pascal Wakafura in a case that has continued to shock residents and raise many questions within the community.

According to police reports, Pascal was attacked and killed by unknown people at his home compound during the night.

The incident reportedly happened shortly after he returned home

Neighbours said the attack took place inside the compound, causing panic and fear among residents after news of the killing spread across the area.

Residents who responded after hearing about the incident said they found Pascal lying in a pool of blood.

Witnesses also revealed that his wife was inside the house at the time of the attack.

Shortly after the incident, she reportedly contacted neighbours and informed them that something terrible had happened at the home.

The tragic death of the health officer has left family members, friends, and neighbours deeply saddened, with many demanding justice and quick investigations into what led to the brutal killing.

On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, detectives handling the case presented a suspect before the Bungoma Law Courts.

Pascal’s wife, Elizabeth Wanjala, was arraigned in court as investigations into the murder continued

During the court session, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations informed the court that Elizabeth is being treated as the main suspect in the case.

The detectives asked the court to allow them to detain the suspect for 21 days.

According to the investigators, the additional time would help them complete detailed forensic analysis and follow important leads connected to the crime scene.

Police further explained that they intend to obtain additional information that could assist the investigation.

Among the areas they want to examine are communication records and financial transactions linked to the case.

Investigators told the court they are planning to seek assistance from Safaricom in order to retrieve and analyse call logs, text messages, and M-Pesa transaction records that may provide crucial evidence.

However, the magistrate declined the detectives’ request to detain the suspect for the full 21 days.

Instead, the court allowed police to hold Elizabeth Wanjala in custody for seven days as investigations continue.

The matter is expected to return to court on Tuesday, May 19, when investigators are expected to provide updates on the progress of the case and seek further directions from the court.
