A heartbreaking incident in Nakuru County has sparked anger after a single mother and her young children were allegedly thrown out of their rented house by an assistant chief during heavy rain.
The incident happened in Bararget area, Kuresoi South, where residents watched helplessly as the woman’s household belongings were removed from the house and left outside in the rain.
A video shared online showed mattresses, blankets, clothes, and other items soaked by the downpour as the devastated family struggled to save their possessions.
According to reports, the assistant chief allegedly accused the woman of selling illicit brew. Witnesses claimed the local administrator stormed the rented home and ordered the eviction without considering the safety of the children.
The emotional video quickly spread on social media, with many Kenyans condemning the incident and demanding justice for the struggling mother and her children.
Residents said the children were left crying and confused as their bedding and belongings were destroyed by the rain.
Reports further indicated that the woman later went to Keringet Police Station to report the matter. However, claims emerged that she was instead threatened with arrest over allegations of selling chang’aa.
Human rights activists and social media users have called on authorities to investigate the incident, saying no family should be treated in such a harsh and humiliating manner, especially during bad weather. Many Kenyans also questioned why the eviction was carried out without proper legal process.
The incident comes at a time when many families across Kenya are already struggling due to heavy rains and floods that have displaced thousands of people in different parts of the country.
