“Moi Left No Public Debt, Kibaki Left Kshs 1.8 Trillion" Junet Makes Major Comments On Ruto's Govt

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed has defended Kenya’s economic performance, citing the Economic Survey 2026 as evidence that the country is on a steady recovery path.

Speaking in Bomet, the Suna East MP dismissed criticism from sections of the media and political class, urging Kenyans to rely on official data.

Junet highlighted that Kenya is now the third-largest economy in Sub-Saharan Africa, behind Nigeria and South Africa, describing this as a significant milestone.

He compared the achievement to qualifying for elite global competitions, saying it reflects strong national progress.

He pointed to key indicators such as the expansion of infrastructure, with 25,000 kilometres of roads under tarmacking, increased maize production nearing 50 million bags, and the creation of one million jobs in the last financial year.

Addressing concerns about public debt, Junet argued that the current administration inherited a struggling economy burdened by heavy borrowing.

He credited William Ruto for steering recovery efforts and called for patience as reforms continue.

He emphasised that economic growth benefits all Kenyans regardless of political or ethnic differences.
