Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has opened up about internal tensions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), revealing that he opposed efforts to remove Edwin Sifuna from his position as Secretary General.
According to Otiende, he personally warned party leaders ahead of a National Executive Committee meeting held in Mombasa, cautioning against moves that could destabilise the party.
He stated that he had directly advised Oburu Oginga to reconsider the proposed changes, but his concerns were not taken into account.
The lawmaker emphasized that his position was guided by loyalty to Raila Odinga’s broader political vision, insisting that his stand was not aligned with competing internal factions within the party.
He further distanced himself from emerging groupings that have been linked to internal divisions and political realignments.
Otiende disclosed that during the critical meeting, only a small number of NEC members opposed the proposal to remove Sifuna.
He identified himself, alongside Timothy Bosire and Ruth Odinga, as the only individuals who openly resisted the move.
The revelations highlight growing internal debate within ODM over leadership direction and decision-making processes.
While the majority reportedly supported the proposal, dissenting voices within the party have raised concerns about unity and consultation.
Political observers note that such disagreements reflect broader struggles within party structures as leaders position themselves ahead of future political contests. However, Otiende maintained that his focus remains on stability and cohesion within the party.
As discussions continue within ODM ranks, attention is now on how the party will manage internal differences while maintaining its political influence and unity under its long-standing leadership.
