According to preliminary reports, the suspect, identified as Mwongeli Munyoki, is alleged to have fatally attacked his wife, Monica Munyoki, aged 45, before attempting to take his own life.
The incident is said to have taken place at around midday, coinciding with a funeral ceremony that many residents in the area were attending at the time.
Witness accounts indicate that a disturbance was heard coming from the couple’s residence, prompting a concerned neighbor to investigate. Upon arrival, the neighbor reportedly encountered the suspect in the act of assaulting his wife.
The situation escalated rapidly, and after being discovered, the suspect is believed to have retreated into the house, where he inflicted a severe abdominal injury on himself.
Residents quickly raised an alarm, leading to a response from officers attached to , alongside detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Mukaa.
Upon arrival, authorities found Monica Munyoki deceased, with multiple severe injuries, including deep cuts to the head, wounds on both hands, and a mutilated finger.
The suspect was discovered within the compound, unconscious and suffering from significant blood loss. A blood-stained kitchen knife, believed to have been used during the attack, was recovered at the scene and secured as evidence.
Mwongeli Munyoki was rushed to in critical condition but later died while undergoing treatment. The body of the deceased woman has also been transferred to the same facility’s mortuary, where a postmortem examination is expected to be conducted.
Police officials have confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the motive behind the incident remains unclear. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward as they continue to piece together the events leading up to this tragic occurrence.
