Ugandan comedienne Anne Kansiime has revealed that she once paid her own dowry after her partner failed to complete the process.
She explained that she introduced her then partner to her family, and they welcomed him. The family later requested dowry as part of the traditional steps but the man did not follow through with the payment.
Kansiime said the situation remained unresolved for some time. When it became clear that her partner was not going to meet the expectations, she decided to take action herself. She stepped in and paid the dowry on her own.
After settling the matter, she continued as if everything had gone as planned, presenting herself as married despite the process not being completed by her partner.
Her comments have sparked reactions online. Some people found the story humorous while others said they admired how she handled the situation.
A number of social media users joked that she had simply moved money from one place to another, a light comment that gained attention.
Kansiime remains one of East Africa’s well known comedians, recognized for her bold personality and her openness in sharing personal experiences.
Her revelation has added to conversations about relationships and expectations, especially around cultural traditions.
