A family in Nakuru County is demanding justice following the tragic death of their 29-year-old daughter, who was allegedly stabbed to death by her lover, a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) captain, at the Gilgil barracks.
The victim, identified as Anita Mugweru, is said to have been attacked and killed by Edwin Kiunga, a KDF captain stationed at the Gilgil barracks.
The incident has left the family devastated, with relatives calling for swift investigations and accountability.
According to the family’s househelp, Winnie Meumbe, she witnessed the events leading up to the fatal incident.
Meumbe said the couple had been experiencing frequent domestic disagreements prior to the tragedy.
On the day of the incident, she explained that Kiunga returned home, but Anita appeared to be in a bad mood. After a brief exchange, Anita reportedly left him in the living room and went to her bedroom, where she locked herself inside.
Meumbe narrated that moments later, Kiunga allegedly forced his way into the room while holding a knife. She said he then stabbed Anita as their four-year-old child watched helplessly. The househelp said the incident happened quickly, leaving her shocked and unable to intervene in time.
The victim’s mother, Sarah Mugweru, also revealed that her daughter had previously complained about being assaulted by the KDF officer.
She claimed that there had been earlier cases of domestic disputes between the two, some of which allegedly led to Kiunga being detained.
The mother said the family had hoped the disagreements would be resolved peacefully, but they never imagined the situation would end in such a tragic manner.
Sarah Mugweru said the death of her daughter has left the family broken and searching for answers.
She added that Anita was a loving mother and daughter whose life was cut short in a painful and violent way.
The grieving mother further stated that the family now has nowhere to turn except to seek justice through legal channels.
“We want justice for our daughter. She did not deserve to die this way,” Sarah said while fighting back tears.
