Albert Ojwang’s Widow Nevnina Breaks Silence On Job Promise Made By Governor Sakaja

Widow of slain teacher-turned-activist Albert Ojwang, Nevnina Onyango, has spoken out about her current unemployment status despite earlier public promises of support made during her husband’s burial.

In a recent online interaction, Nevnina responded to questions from a netizen who asked whether she had secured the job reportedly pledged by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

She candidly revealed that she is still jobless and is actively looking for employment opportunities, noting that no official placement has materialized so far.

“Is there a job opening available that I can apply for?” she asked, which elicited mixed responses from social media users who have been following her story since her husband's death.

Ojwang, a teacher and activist, passed away under contentious circumstances while in police custody, sparking national attention and widespread outrage.

In the wake of his passing, Gov. Sakaja had publicly vowed to support grieving family, including funding education for their young child and providing Nevnina with employment within county upon her graduation.

He also promised to help with funeral costs and to support long-term income initiatives for the family, such as housing projects for Ojwang’s parents.

Despite these commitments, Nevnina’s recent comments have reignited public conversation about the fulfillment of such promises and the difficulties faced by families left in the aftermath of public tragedies.

The late Albert Ojwang, a Kenyan blogger and teacher who died in police custody in June 2025, left behind a young widow and a young son.

As only child, his death deeply devastated his parents, who had invested significantly in his life.
