Photos of two murder suspects linked to Reverend Julius Ndumia’s death have emerged as they were arraigned in court.
The two suspects, Beryl Nafula Otenyo and Felix Odinga Okumu, appeared before the Nakuru Law Courts over the killing of PCEA Reverend Julius Ndumia.
The cleric was found dead within the church compound at PCEA Tabuga Parish in Bahati Constituency, Nakuru County, on May 4.
Investigators told the court that the suspects were allegedly found with the deceased pastor’s mobile phone and SIM cards shortly after the murder.
Detectives believe the recovered items could provide crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation.
According to investigating officers, the mobile phone and SIM cards will be taken to a forensic laboratory in Nairobi for further examination.
The officers said the analysis is expected to help trace suspicious M-Pesa transactions believed to have been carried out after the pastor’s death.
The prosecution requested the court to allow detectives to detain the two suspects for 30 days as investigations continue.
However, the court reduced the detention period to 21 days after considering both the rights of the suspects and the need for police to complete investigations.
In its ruling, the court stated that although investigators had sought a longer detention period, the prosecution would only be granted 21 days to hold the suspects at Menengai Police Station.
The suspects will remain in custody pending further investigations and are expected back in court on June 3 for mention of the case.
The murder of Reverend Ndumia has shocked residents of Bahati and members of the church, with many calling for speedy investigations and justice for the slain cleric.
