DCI Reveal the Last Drink Dr Obwaka Took Only 2 Sips Of Before He Collapsed and Died

Detectives are now investigating the final hours of veteran Nairobi gynaecologist Dr Job Obwaka after reports emerged that he collapsed moments after taking two sips of water.

Police say the 45-year-old woman was the last known person to see the 83-year-old doctor alive before he was rushed to a Nairobi hospital on the evening of May 1, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigators stated that Dr Obwaka had travelled to Kitengela for a planned business meeting with Wangare, who has been described as his business partner.

According to an official police report, the doctor was taken to hospital in an ambulance after collapsing in Kitengela while in the company of the woman.

Medical staff later confirmed that he had died before arrival.

Officers who visited the hospital established that Dr Obwaka had a history of medical conditions, although the exact cause of death is still under investigation.

Further police accounts indicate that Dr Obwaka arrived shortly after midday and later had a meal with Wangare. After eating, he reportedly asked for water.

Shortly after taking two sips, he became drowsy and started experiencing breathing difficulties.

Authorities say Wangare then used the doctor’s phone to contact his family members and close associates, while a neighbour helped organise transport to hospital.

DCI officers from Kilimani Police Station have since taken the woman into custody as a person of interest as investigations continue. Police have also been examining her Kitengela residence.

Dr Obwaka’s sudden death has caused shock in Nairobi’s medical community, where he was widely respected for his many years of service in women’s health care.

Friends and colleagues say he remained committed to treating patients despite his age and health challenges.

Police have said more information will be released after the postmortem examination and forensic tests are completed.
