On Sunday, traffic on Mombasa Road got really slow after a car caught fire near Devki, making drivers and people living nearby stop and look.
Witnesses said the car suddenly started puffing out thick smoke and then flames quickly took over the engine part.
It happened during the day and people on the road got pretty scared. Some drivers pulled over to watch, while others hurried to get away from the fire for their own safety.Right after the fire started, some good samaritans and workers nearby ran over to help.
A few tried to put out the fire with extinguishers before the emergency crews got there. Videos posted online showed the car completely swallowed by flames, with dark smoke rising high above the busy highway.
Nobody had officially said what caused the fire when this report was written. But witnesses thought it might have been some kind of mechanical problem. Officials will likely look into it to figure out exactly why the car caught fire.
Luckily, no one died, which many people called a miracle given how much traffic usually backs up on that road. It wasn't clear right away if the driver or any passengers got hurt either.
The burning car messed up traffic for a bit as drivers slowed down when they got close. Later, police and emergency crews worked to get traffic moving normally again and made sure the area was safe.
Cars catching fire on big highways seems to be happening more and more often these days, which makes people worry about how well cars are kept up and how safe the roads are.
Drivers have been told many times to get their cars checked regularly and to act fast if they see odd smoke, notice their car getting too hot or smell anything weird while driving. They're still looking into what happened with the Mombasa Road fire.
