My Sister Introduced me to a Cult Church Where Women Would Apply Oil on My Body For Deliverance

A chilling testimony has surfaced from Embu County, where a man identified as James Irungu has opened up about a disturbing experience inside what he now describes as a cult-like church.

Irungu recounts how his journey into the controversial religious group began through a trusted family member—his own sister.

According to him, she was deeply involved in the church as an assistant pastor and convinced him to seek “deliverance” there during a vulnerable period in his life.

What followed, he says, was far from what he expected.

Irungu describes unsettling rituals carried out under the guise of spiritual healing. In one instance, he claims he was instructed to lick ashes from a bowl while holding a Bible, an act he did not fully understand but complied with out of desperation.

He also alleges that during one session, the senior pastor placed fingers in his ears while speaking in tongues, after which he lost consciousness.

When he came to, Irungu says he found himself in a different room, naked, with two women applying oil on his body—an experience that left him confused, shaken, and questioning everything.

His story becomes even more painful when he reflects on a previous encounter with another controversial religious group linked to Paul Mackenzie, where he and his wife reportedly lost two children due to starvation.

The trauma, he says, pushed them to seek help, only to land in yet another troubling environment.

Now speaking out, Irungu is urging Kenyans to be vigilant when choosing places of worship. He warns that not all spiritual leaders have good intentions, and some may exploit followers during their weakest moments.

His account adds to growing concerns about unchecked religious practices and the urgent need for awareness and accountability within spiritual spaces.
