A man from Mbita has moved many people after honouring his late wife by paying her dowry two years after her death, in a ceremony filled with love and emotion.
Peter Onundo and Sharon Ojuok first met while they were still in primary school. Their friendship grew over the years, and they later reunited at Egerton University. It was during their time at the university that their relationship turned into a deep love story.
In 2023, the couple welcomed a baby girl, marking a joyful moment in their lives. However, their happiness was short-lived when Sharon passed away at the age of 24.
Her sudden death left Peter heartbroken as he struggled to come to terms with the loss of his young family.
Speaking about the painful experience, Peter shared the circumstances that led to Sharon’s death, describing it as a difficult and emotional period in his life. Despite the grief, he remained committed to honouring her memory and the love they shared.
Two years after her passing, Peter fulfilled a cultural and personal promise by paying Sharon’s dowry. The ceremony was colourful and emotional, bringing together family and friends who gathered to support him and celebrate Sharon’s life.
Peter explained that paying the dowry was important to him as it showed respect to Sharon’s family and recognised her as his wife, even in death. He said his love for her did not end when she passed away.
The ceremony has touched many people, with some praising Peter for his loyalty and dedication. Others have described the act as a powerful example of love that goes beyond loss.
Through his actions, Peter has kept Sharon’s memory alive, showing that true love can endure even in the face of tragedy.
