A family in Kisumu has been left in deep pain and grief after their daughter, who went missing during the Easter holiday, was later found gang raped and murdered, with her body dumped in Riat Forest.
The young woman has been identified as Rose Better Apondo, a 21-year-old student at Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology (RIAT) in Kisumu.
Rose was last seen on April 5, 2026, in Kisumu town before she suddenly disappeared, leaving her family worried about her whereabouts.
According to family members, Rose had gone to Kisumu town during the Easter holiday but failed to return home.
When she did not answer calls and could not be reached, the family became concerned and started searching for her.
They contacted friends, relatives, and fellow students in hopes of finding any information about her location.
As hours turned into days, the search intensified.
The family also shared her photos and details on social media, asking the public to help locate her.
Many people joined in the search, hoping she would be found safe and alive.
However, the search took a tragic turn when reports emerged that a body had been discovered in Riat Forest.
The family rushed to the scene, only to confirm their worst fears.
Rose’s body was found in a bad condition.
Reports indicate that she had been gang raped before she was murdered.
Her body was also found naked, a sign that she may have been attacked by multiple suspects before being killed and dumped in the forest.
The heartbreaking discovery left the family devastated and struggling to come to terms with the loss.
They described Rose as a humble, hardworking, and focused student who had big dreams for her future. Her sudden death has left a huge gap in the family.
During the search, a social media user had claimed that Rose might have been with her lover and that she would reappear after some time.
However, this claim turned out to be false after her body was found in the forest, bringing even more sorrow to her loved ones.
