New details have emerged following the tragic killing of a mobile money operator after CCTV footage captured the final moments before she was shot dead during a robbery.
Authorities have since arrested eleven suspects believed to be behind the shocking incident.
According to a report published by Tuko.co.ke and written by Amos Khaemba, the victim was identified as Kokunda Patricia, who was working at her mobile money shop in Soroti when armed criminals attacked her.
CCTV footage shared by investigators showed the suspects approaching Patricia’s shop while pretending to be customers.
Moments later, the situation quickly turned violent.
One of the suspects reportedly pulled out a gun and demanded money from the mobile money operator.
Witnesses said Patricia appeared frightened but tried to cooperate with the attackers.
However, despite her cooperation, the suspects opened fire, shooting her at close range before fleeing the scene.
The incident caused panic among nearby traders and customers, many of whom ran for safety after hearing gunshots.
Patricia was rushed to hospital, but she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries shortly after.
Police immediately launched investigations into the incident, reviewing CCTV footage from the shop and surrounding businesses.
The footage helped detectives identify the suspects and track their movements before and after the robbery.
After several days of investigations, police arrested eleven suspects believed to be linked to the robbery and murder.
Authorities also recovered a significant amount of money suspected to have been stolen during the attack. In addition, police seized several weapons believed to have been used during the crime.
Investigators revealed that the suspects are believed to be part of an organised criminal gang that had been targeting mobile money agents and small businesses in the area.
Police say they are continuing with investigations to identify more suspects and determine whether the group was involved in other similar.
