A 38-year-old mother of two, Lydia Kerubo Omwenga, is fighting for her life after being diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, a condition that has left her family in deep distress and financial uncertainty.
Originally from Keroka in Kisii County, Lydia had been working as a domestic worker in Saudi Arabia, where she was the sole breadwinner for her family. However, her life took a devastating turn when she fell ill, forcing her to return to Kenya and abandon her job.
Now living in Ruiru, Lydia says her condition has worsened significantly. She initially sought treatment in Thika but was later referred to Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi. Unfortunately, the cost of treatment has proven too high for her family to afford.
Her illness has also taken a physical toll. Lydia revealed that her right hand is no longer functioning properly, making it difficult for her to carry out even basic daily tasks or care for her children.
With her husband relying on irregular casual jobs, the family is struggling to meet even their basic needs. In a desperate attempt to raise funds, they sold household items, but the money was still not enough to sustain her medical care.
“I am just waiting to die at home because I have no one to help me,” Lydia said, expressing her fear and deep concern for her children’s future.
She is now appealing to well-wishers for financial assistance to continue her treatment and regain hope for recovery. Those willing to support her can reach out through 0715735342.
Lydia’s story highlights the harsh reality many families face when battling serious illnesses without adequate financial support.
