Defiant Protester Lectures Police as He Is Bundled into Land Cruiser During Nairobi Maandamano

A dramatic scene unfolded in Nairobi’s Central Business District on Tuesday after a man was forcefully arrested while openly challenging police officers during ongoing maandamano protests.

Eyewitnesses say the man, whose identity was not immediately established, stood his ground as officers moved in to detain him.

Even as he was being bundled into a police Land Cruiser, he continued to lecture the officers, accusing them of suppressing citizens’ rights and urging them to uphold the Constitution.

In dramatic scenes, anti-riot police officers moved in quickly and grabbed the two men who reportedly resisted arrest.

The men were seen wailing uncontrollably as officers dragged them toward a waiting police vehicle.

They struggled and refused to enter the vehicle, forcing the officers to bundle them inside as members of the public watched.

Videos captured at the scene showed the two men crying loudly while pleading with officers as they were being forced into the vehicle.

The situation attracted a crowd, with some onlookers recording the incident using their mobile phones.

Despite the resistance, the officers managed to push the men into the vehicle before driving away.

Police officers had earlier been deployed across the CBD following calls for protests over the fuel price hike.

The officers, many of them dressed in anti-riot gear, were seen patrolling various streets to prevent demonstrations from escalating into chaos. Authorities appeared keen to maintain order as more youths began arriving in the city center.

Although several youths were spotted gathering in different parts of the CBD, business activities remained largely minimal.

Many traders opted to close their shops early while others stayed indoors, fearing possible clashes between protesters and police.

Public transport operations were also affected, with some matatus avoiding certain routes within the city center.
