The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has condemned the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, promising a thorough investigation into the violent incident at Java House, West End Mall in Kisumu.
In a Wednesday statement, the DCI described the assault as “brazen and cowardly” and extended wishes for a swift recovery to Osotsi, while also sending condolences to his family and the people of Vihiga County.
The senator, who was in Kisumu for routine engagements, sustained injuries during the attack and was later transferred to Nairobi for specialised medical care.
Authorities said that the motive for the assault has not yet been determined. Investigators are analysing CCTV footage from the restaurant and pursuing critical leads to identify the perpetrators.
“Our detectives are actively pursuing very crucial leads following a detailed forensic analysis of the available CCTV footage,” the agency said.
The DCI also urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation that could disrupt the investigation.
“We urge members of the public to allow investigations to proceed without interference. The DCI is fully committed to getting to the bottom of this matter and will ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice,” the statement added.
The attack has reignited concerns over the security of political leaders, particularly amid growing political tensions in opposition circles.
