Webuye: At Least 14 Killed, Scores Injured as Truck Rams Into Boda Riders at Malaha Junction

At least 14 people have died following a tragic road accident at Malaha Junction along the Webuye-Kitale Highway Police said the deadly crash occurred Monday evening, March 9, as emergency teams rushed to the scene to rescue survivors.

Reports indicate the trailer ploughed into a crowd that had gathered to assist victims of an earlier accident at the same junction.

Authorities say several people were injured and rushed to Webuye County Hospital as police continued operations and investigations into the crash.

The fatal crash, which occurred on the evening of Monday, March 9, involved a trailer and several passenger vehicles.

Authorities said the accident quickly turned chaotic as emergency teams rushed to the scene to rescue survivors and retrieve bodies.

"It was a very unfortunate accident. Ten lives have been lost and 11 people injured," Cheboren said while giving Nation an initial update on the tragedy.

How did Malaha Junction accident happen? According to preliminary reports and accounts from the scene, the trailer rammed into several vehicles and motorcycles near the busy junction, causing massive destruction.

The situation became even more tragic after it emerged that the deadly collision had happened shortly after another accident had occurred at the same location.

Reports indicate that a group of people had gathered at Malaha Junction to help rescue two victims involved in the earlier crash when the trailer lost control and ploughed into the crowd.

Disturbing images circulating online showed the damaged trailer lying across the road with wrecked motorcycles and victims around the scene.

Webuye West MP aspirant Lendrix Waswa was among the first responders, dispatching two ambulances to help transport victims to hospitals.

Emergency responders and police officers worked through the night to retrieve victims who were rushed to Webuye County Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Bungoma woman representative Catherine Wambilianga expressed deep sorrow over the incident, saying the loss had shaken the community.

She condoled with victims of the accident, adding that her thoughts and prayers were with those affected by the evening tragedy.

"I am deeply saddened to receive the heartbreaking news of a horrific accident that has occurred at Malaha Junction, along the Webuye-Lugulu road.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones affected by this terrible loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this incredibly difficult time," the MP stated.
