Photos have emerged of the KMTC student who was killed by the speeding convoy of Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, leaving her family and friends in deep mourning.
The victim, 21 year old Rose Olang'o, had recently completed her studies in Clinical Medicine and Surgery at Kenya Medical Training College Kisumu campus and was waiting for graduation when the tragic accident happened.
The crash occurred at Otonglo area along the busy Kisumu Busia road as the convoy was heading to Kisumu International Airport after attending a thanksgiving ceremony in Rarieda in Siaya County.
Witnesses said the convoy was moving at high speed when it knocked down several pedestrians and riders.
The accident left three people dead and several others injured, causing shock among residents.
Rose had left Kisumu town to assist her father Henry Olang'o at Otonglo Market where he sells clothes and traditional sandals.
Sadly she was caught in the accident before reaching the market.
Her father said he received a call informing him that his daughter had been involved in an accident.
He explained that the family had struggled for years to educate her and she was the hope of the family.
Her mother Hellen Awino said she was waiting to meet her daughter at Kibuye Market before she received the heartbreaking news.
When the parents arrived at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital, they searched among the injured patients but could not find her.
Hospital staff later directed them to the mortuary where they found her body.
Family members said Rose had completed her course two weeks earlier and was preparing to begin her career in the medical field.
Although Duale promised support to the victims after the accident, the family says they have not yet received any assistance and are appealing for help to give their daughter a decent burial.
