Suspected Drug Trafficker Arrested After Dramatic Chase On Eldoret-Nakuru Highway

A suspected drug trafficker is in police custody after officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit intercepted a vehicle transporting a large consignment of bhang along the busy highway connecting Eldoret and Nakuru.

The arrest followed a tense high-speed chase that ended with the recovery of narcotics estimated to be worth Sh8.1 million.

According to police reports, officers had received intelligence about a vehicle believed to be transporting illegal drugs through the region.

Acting on the tip-off, detectives mounted surveillance along the highway and soon spotted the suspect’s vehicle speeding toward Nakuru.

When officers attempted to stop the car, the driver reportedly ignored their signals and accelerated, prompting a dramatic pursuit along the busy road.

The chase lasted several minutes as officers tried to intercept the vehicle without putting other motorists at risk. Eventually, the suspect lost control and was forced to stop, allowing the officers to close in and make the arrest. A search conducted on the vehicle revealed several tightly packed sacks of bhang hidden inside.

Police confirmed that the recovered drugs have an estimated street value of Sh8.1 million, making it one of the significant narcotics seizures recorded in the region in recent months. The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, is currently being held as investigations continue.

Authorities say the operation highlights the growing determination by law enforcement agencies to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating across major transport routes.

The Eldoret–Nakuru corridor has increasingly been under watch due to its strategic position linking various parts of the country.

Detectives are now working to establish the origin of the drugs and identify other individuals who may be involved in the trafficking ring. The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.

Police have also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, noting that community cooperation plays a vital role in the fight against illegal drugs.
