It was a sad Saturday afternoon after a tragic road incident left several people injured and shocked many in the community. Authorities have started investigations as police search for a driver who ran away from the scene.

According to sources, 14 Kenya Prisons officers from Shikutsa Farm Prison in Kakamega were involved in a road accident when a lorry carrying sugarcane lost control and crashed into the Land Cruiser they were traveling in.

The officers were on their way to Eldoret for a benchmarking trip when the accident happened.

The injured officers were rushed to Malava Sub-County Hospital where they are receiving treatment. Medical sources say three officers have been admitted to the hospital, while one of them is in critical condition. The rest were treated for serious injuries and are still under medical observation.

Police say the lorry driver fled immediately after the crash. Officers have launched a manhunt and are working to identify and arrest the driver.

Photos shared online show the accident scene with the Land Cruiser badly damaged. The vehicle was hit hard on the driver’s side, and the bonnet was also heavily damaged.

The images also show police officers at the scene as emergency teams responded to help the injured.

Authorities are urging drivers to be careful on the roads to avoid such accidents. Investigations into the cause of the crash are still ongoing.
