Images of a rumoured Ksh2.7 billion retirement home connected to former President Uhuru Kenyatta in Narok County caused social media to go crazy on October 19.
Uhuru was rumoured to have moved to a 1,000-acre farm in Oloolmongi, Trans Mara; internet reports claimed the mansion was located in the centre of Maasai Mara.
"Uhuru's new multi-billion home situated at the heart of Maasai Mara," somebody wrote as a caption for the images.
The mansion in Thousand Oaks, California, is owned by Canadian ice hockey great Wayne Gretzky, according to a Kenyans.co.ke check.
As the driver tried to swerve away, the vehicle lost control. The matatu skidded off the road, broke through the guard rails, and rolled down a steep ridge before landing on its side.
The impact was severe, causing panic and serious injuries among the passengers.
There are reports of mass casualties, with several people confirmed dead and many others injured.
Some passengers were trapped inside the vehicle and had to be rescued by members of the public before emergency teams arrived.
Police officers quickly responded to the scene and have since taken control of the area. Emergency services, including ambulances and rescue teams, were also mobilized to help the injured.
Victims have been rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment, though the exact number of casualties is still being confirmed.
Traffic along the highway has been affected, with some delays reported as authorities manage the situation and clear the wreckage.
Officials are urging drivers to be extra careful, especially on busy highways, and to remain alert at all times.
They also warned pedestrians to avoid walking on major roads to prevent such tragic incidents.
Investigations into the accident are ongoing to determine the full details of what happened.
