Over the weekend, families looking for lost family members congregated at Nairobi Funeral Home in the hopes of finding their loved ones.
While authorities resumed rescue and recovery efforts, dozens more bodies rescued from floodwaters were transported to the facility.
More than twenty remains had been transported to the mortuary, according to official confirmation by Sunday. While search operations proceeded, some families were able to identify their relatives, while others were left in excruciating doubt.
Akinyi, who sold tea along Kirinyaga Road, a popular area with roadside shops and small traders, is one of those who is still unaccounted for. She relied on daily sales to sustain herself and her family, just like many other vendors in the city.
According to her family, she was at work when the intense downpour started. She reportedly sought refuge inside a nearby building as the floods got worse and the water levels kept rising.
Soon after, she stopped taking calls, which raised concerns. In an attempt to locate her, her family started looking around the city's hospitals and mortuaries. Their efforts have not yet yielded results.
The two had communicated just before Akinyi vanished, according to a close acquaintance who spoke to reporters. The seller recounted rising water inside the premises where she had sought shelter during the call.
The scenario suddenly become deadly, and she had climbed onto furniture to stay above the water. Let's wait and see what occurs in the interim.
