Former Top Kibaki Minister and Senator Makes Rare Public Appearance Years Since His Election Defeat

Former Embu County senator Njeru Ndwiga on Monday made a rare public appearance, almost four years since suffering a humiliating defeat in his quest for Embu County Governor seat.

Ndwiga was among those who were keen to succeed former Governor Martin Wambora. But as fate would have it, he lost it to the current Governor Cecily Mbarire.

Ndwiga paid a courtesy call on Public Service cabinet secretary Geoffrey Ruku in his office.

Ruku hails from Embu County. He had previously served as Mbeere North MP before he was appointed to the cabinet in 2025.

A key member of the former President Mwai Kibaki adminstration, Ndwiga served as cooperatives cabinet minister during Kibaki's first term in office.

In 2007, he lost his MP seat and went to spend the next ten years in the political cold before making a comeback in 2017 when no one had expected him to recover politically.
