The 24-seater Gulfstream aircraft crashed into a house after snagging a power line on takeoff from Busia in far western Kenya, according to members of the government watching from the ground.
The crash was a demoralising blow to the government of President Mwai Kibaki, a discordant coalition of 14 former opposition parties which swept to power at that time.
The report also said many airstrips in the country were poorly maintained and the government did not allocate enough money for repair and maintenance.
Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua shared harrowing little-known details about how she escaped death by a whisker a few days after the National Rainbow Coalition romped to victory in 2002.
On the fateful day, she narrates that they took a flight from Wilson Airport to Busia Airstrip where they landed safely and headed to Awori’s home for the ceremony.
On their way back after the event, she explains that together with Koome they used Attorney General Amos Wako's back to the airstrip.
