A hunt for two armed robbers is underway in Busia County following a violent attack that left an M-Pesa attendant critically injured.
The incident took place at Mundika Shopping Centre on March 16, 2026, around 1:00 p.m., authorities confirmed.
According to police reports, the assailants arrived on a white TVS motorcycle with no registration number. Armed with an AK-47 rifle, they stormed the Mareba Super M-Pesa outlet and confronted the attendant. They shot her in the lower abdomen, and fled with Sh400,000.
The victim was immediately rushed to Bulanda Nursing Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
Police processed the crime scene and recovered seven spent cartridges, a bullet core and a fragment, all preserved as exhibits.
Security teams have since intensified patrols in the area, combing nearby villages and trading centers in pursuit of the suspects.
Investigations are ongoing, with authorities calling on the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the gunmen.
This robbery is part of a worrying trend of increasing attacks targeting M-Pesa outlets in the region. Police officials note that such crimes have been on the rise despite ongoing efforts to curb them. Special response teams have been deployed to strengthen security and deter further incidents.
