Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has raised concerns over what he calls a deliberate attempt by a very powerful individual to take over his multi-billion shilling properties in Karen.
Speaking to the press outside his Dari Business Park on Saturday, March 14, Tuju said he has faced threats and intimidation aimed at forcing him to sell his land.
Tuju revealed that police officers recently entered his property, a move he claims left his family, especially his children, frightened.
Despite the pressure, he insisted that he has no intention of surrendering his assets. “I was approached by a very senior person in this country who offered to buy my property, but I said no.
I will not mention names, but the truth will come out,” he said, leaving the public curious about the identity of the powerful individual.
He also alleged that intermediaries claim to have purchased his property through an auction. Tuju dismissed the claim, stating that no legitimate auction ever took place.
“They claim to have bought this property at less than its value, but that is not true,” he said, emphasizing that the move is part of a larger effort to seize his land.
On the issue of his debt with the East African Development Bank, Tuju said he is willing and able to settle his obligations.
He accused the bank of intentionally delaying repayment agreements, suggesting the real objective is to acquire his prime land.
“We have offered to settle our debt multiple times since 2019, even securing a Dubai-based investor to cover the costs. But the bank has repeatedly moved the goalposts,” he explained.
Tuju stressed that his readiness to pay has never been the problem. He believes powerful interests are after his land. “If they wanted the loan repaid, they could have accepted it. What they really want is the land,” he stated firmly.
Despite the controversy, Tuju vowed to protect his property and ensure his obligations are settled lawfully. His remarks have sparked widespread debate online, with many Kenyans questioning the influence of powerful individuals in private property disputes.
The public remains intrigued about the identity of the unnamed figure allegedly behind the intimidation.
