Wilson Sossion Elated After Court Of Appeal Reinstates Him As Teacher

Former teachers’ union leader Wilson Sossion has expressed elation after the Court of Appeal ruled in his favor on Friday, February 27, reinstating his status as a registered teacher in Kenya.

The court found that actions previously taken by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) constituted unfair labor practices.

In a statement following the ruling, Sossion described the decision as a moment of great personal and professional joy.

“Join me in celebrating a moment of great joy in my life! The Court of Appeal has today made a fair determination on my status as a teacher in Kenya, ruling that the actions taken by TSC constituted unfair labor practice,” he said.

Sossion, widely regarded as one of Kenya’s top educators, has spent years mentoring students and advocating for the improvement of teachers’ status in the country.

The ruling restores his professional standing and acknowledges his contribution to education both in Kenya and across Africa.

He extended his gratitude to his legal team, particularly Bomet Senator Hillary Sigei, describing him as an exceptional lawyer and a rising leader.

“Senator Sigei, you're the best I've worked with, and I have no doubt you'll go far,” Sossion stated.

Sossion also thanked President William Ruto, noting that the administration has taken steps to address past professional injustices against teachers.

He affirmed his commitment to continue serving the nation with dedication, emphasizing that the ruling underscores the importance of fair treatment and justice within the education sector.

The court’s decision is expected to set a precedent for addressing similar grievances among teachers and public servants, highlighting the judiciary’s role in upholding professional rights and ensuring accountability in labor practices.
