Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o has finally addressed the ongoing tensions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), urging party members to work together and uphold mutual respect as the party prepares for its National Delegates Conference (NDC) on March 27, 2026.
Speaking on Friday, Nyong’o called for calm and solidarity among party leaders and members.
He emphasized that ODM’s core principles of democracy, inclusivity, and social justice must guide the party through the current internal disputes.
The NDC is a crucial event for ODM, as it will determine the party’s direction ahead of the 2027 General Election. However, disagreements have surfaced over who has the authority to convene the conference.
The party’s constitution recognizes the NDC as the highest decision-making body, but rival factions within the National Executive Committee (NEC) have raised concerns over whether the pro-Oburu Odinga team or the faction loyal to Secretary General Edwin Sifuna will lead the meeting.
The party has been experiencing fractures following a group of leaders forming alliances with President William Ruto’s administration.
Critics argue that these members acted in their personal capacities, undermining ODM’s opposition stance.
Several senior leaders, including Siaya Governo James Orengo and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, have publicly supported Nyong’o’s call for unity.
They insist that ODM must remain guided by its founding principles and that party matters should be steered by the secretariat to preserve internal cohesion.
