Police in Homa Bay County have arrested one person after a large quantity of bhang was discovered at Achuodho Beach.
The suspect was found in possession of 2,353 rolls of bhang, raising concerns about drug trafficking activities along the lakeside area.
The arrest was made during a security operation conducted by local police officers.
According to authorities, the suspect was found with the illegal drugs packed and ready for distribution. The bhang was recovered and taken as evidence as investigations began.
Achuodho Beach is a busy area used by fishermen and traders, making it a location of interest for law enforcement agencies.
Police believe that beaches and landing sites are sometimes used by criminals to transport illegal goods because of the high movement of people and boats. Officers have therefore increased patrols in such areas to curb illegal activities.
The suspect was taken into police custody and is expected to be charged in court once investigations are completed.
Police did not immediately release the name of the individual, saying this will be done during court proceedings. The seized bhang will also be presented as evidence during the trial.
Police officers in Homa Bay County have warned members of the public against engaging in drug-related activities.
They noted that drug abuse and trafficking continue to cause serious social and economic problems, especially among young people. Authorities say drugs contribute to crime, school dropouts, and health problems in the community.
Security agencies have also urged residents to work closely with the police by sharing information that can help stop crime. They emphasized that community cooperation plays a key role in maintaining safety and security.
The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by the government to fight drug trafficking across the country. Police have promised to continue operations targeting drug dealers and suppliers, especially in known hotspots.
As investigations continue, residents of Homa Bay County have been encouraged to remain vigilant and support law enforcement agencies in keeping their communities safe and drug-free.
