Oburu Oginga has unveiled a fresh political approach for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), marking what he described as a deliberate shift in strategy as the country moves closer to the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a women’s economic empowerment forum in Homa Bay on Friday, February 27, 2026, Oburu said the party is changing how it engages in national politics.
The event, which brought together women leaders and small-scale traders, focused on strengthening women’s financial independence and expanding opportunities at the grassroots level.
Oburu stressed that empowering women is not just a social issue but a key pillar of national development.
He said no country can achieve meaningful progress if women are left behind in economic activities.
According to him, supporting women in business, leadership and community initiatives creates a strong foundation for inclusive growth.
During his address, the ODM leader made it clear that the party is moving away from constant political rivalry and instead embracing cooperation.
He explained that ODM is intentionally shifting from confrontational politics to what he called collaborative governance.
The goal, he noted, is to help build a stable and prosperous nation where all communities feel included.
As part of this new direction, Oburu urged members to “fortify the Orange House and build strategic alliances.”
He said the party will focus on strengthening its internal structures from the grassroots to the national level.
This includes reorganising branches, recruiting new members and preparing leaders to face future political contests with unity and discipline.
Oburu added that by investing in renewal and internal stability, ODM aims to remain one of the most organised and resilient political parties in the country.
