ODM Chair Wanga Warns Party Divisions Could Hurt 2027 Election Chances

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Chairperson Gladys Wanga has warned that internal divisions within the party could cost it key strongholds in the 2027 General Election.
She said unity is critical if the party wants to remain strong and competitive across the country.
Speaking during recent party engagements, Wanga noted that disagreements among ODM leaders and members are weakening the party from within.
She warned that continued infighting could push voters away and create opportunities for rival political parties to take over areas that have traditionally supported ODM.
Wanga emphasized that political opponents are not the only threat to the party. According to her, internal conflicts can be even more dangerous because they confuse supporters and weaken trust in leadership.
She urged party members to focus on shared goals instead of personal or factional interests.
The warning comes at a time when ODM is facing growing debate over its political direction, especially regarding its relationship with the ruling administration.
While some leaders support cooperation with the government for development purposes, others believe the party should firmly position itself in opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
These differing views have caused visible tension within the party.
Several ODM meetings have been held in recent months to address these concerns and promote unity. However, the absence of some senior leaders from key meetings has raised questions about the level of commitment to reconciliation.
Political observers say this signals deeper problems that could affect the party’s future performance.
ODM has long enjoyed strong support in regions such as Nyanza and parts of the Coast. However, analysts warn that no region should be taken for granted. If divisions continue, voters may become discouraged or shift their loyalty to other parties that appear more organized and united.
Wanga called on party leaders, Members of Parliament, and grassroots supporters to respect party structures and resolve disagreements through dialogue. She stressed that discipline and teamwork are essential for building a strong campaign ahead of 2027.
As Kenya moves closer to the next general election, ODM faces a critical moment.
Whether the party can overcome its internal challenges may determine its ability to protect its traditional bases and expand its influence nationally. Wanga’s message is clear: unity is not optional—it is necessary for survival and success.
