Bobi Wine Says Wife Hospitalised After Night Raid at Magere Home

Ugandan opposition leader and National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has said his wife was hospitalised after a night raid at their home in Magere, near Kampala.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of opposition leaders and their families in Uganda.

According to Bobi Wine, armed security personnel stormed his home late at night while searching for him. He said the officers were heavily armed and forcefully entered the compound, causing damage to property. At the time of the raid, Bobi Wine was not at home.

In a statement shared on social media, the NUP leader claimed that his wife, Barbara Kyagulanyi, was assaulted during the operation.

He alleged that she was threatened, physically attacked, and choked by the officers. As a result, she suffered injuries and was rushed to hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment.

Bobi Wine said the raid left his family traumatised and described the incident as an act of intimidation. He accused the security forces of using excessive force and targeting his family because of his political activities.

He also claimed that some household staff were assaulted and that personal items were taken during the raid.

The incident comes at a time of heightened political tension in Uganda, following the recent general elections.

Bobi Wine was one of the main opposition candidates and has previously rejected election outcomes, citing irregularities and violence against his supporters. His party, the National Unity Platform, has repeatedly reported arrests and harassment of its members.

So far, Ugandan authorities and security agencies have not issued an official statement regarding the alleged raid. There has been no confirmation or denial of the claims made by Bobi Wine.

The lack of response has fueled public debate and concern among human rights groups and opposition supporters.

Political observers say such incidents increase fear and mistrust in the country’s political environment. They warn that violence and intimidation could affect democratic processes and freedom of expression.

Bobi Wine has called on the international community and human rights organisations to pay attention to the situation in Uganda. He has urged his supporters to remain calm and peaceful despite the incident.

As his wife continues to receive medical care, Bobi Wine says he remains concerned about the safety of his family and supporters.

The situation at Magere has once again highlighted the ongoing political tension in Uganda and renewed calls for respect for human rights and the rule of law.
