Safaricom Finally Reveals the Secret to Increasing Your Fuliza Limit — After Kenyan Man Complains

A frustrated Kenyan has pushed Safaricom to break down exactly how customers can increase their Fuliza limits, after claiming his limit has stayed the same for three years.
Kenyans make transactions at an M-Pesa shop.

The man, Geoffrey Menge, complained on Facebook that despite using M-Pesa actively, his Fuliza limit has “stayed stuck.” His post struck a nerve with thousands of Kenyans who rely on the overdraft service to complete daily transactions.

Safaricom has now responded — and the truth is, your Fuliza limit is not random.

According to the telco, several key habits affect whether your limit goes up. These include:

✔️ Repaying Okoa Jahazi on time

✔️ Saving regularly in M-Shwari without withdrawing

✔️ Frequent M-Pesa transactions

✔️ Keeping a clean credit score across all Safaricom services

Safaricom told TUKO that following these practices helps build a stronger financial profile. Once the system detects consistent positive habits, your limit is automatically increased — and Safaricom sends you a notification.

Fuliza, introduced in 2019, allows M-Pesa users to complete payments even when their balance is low. However, not everyone gets a high limit right away; customers must opt in using *334# and build trust over time.

Safaricom’s latest financial report shows just how popular Fuliza has become: Kenyans borrowed KSh 629.2 billion in six months — a massive 39.8% jump.
