Police in Kisumu County have confirmed the arrest of a suspect believed to be linked to the death of a second-year university student whose body was later discovered in a forested area near Borkwono, close to her school.

The suspect is now in custody as detectives continue with investigations into the shocking incident that has left many students and residents in deep sorrow.

Sources from the Kenya Police Service say the victim, identified as Alice Rianga, went missing on Thursday last week after attending her classes at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology.

She was reportedly last seen on campus before she suddenly disappeared without informing friends or family where she was heading.

Concern began to grow when her phone went off and she could no longer be reached.

Her close friends and classmates started searching for her, trying to call her phone repeatedly, but all attempts failed.

This raised alarm among students, who then shared her details and photos on social media in an effort to trace her whereabouts.

As the search continued, worry spread across the university community.

Many students organized informal search efforts around the school and nearby areas, hoping she would be found safe.

However, days later, the situation turned tragic after reports confirmed that her body had been discovered dumped in a forested area in Borkwono, Kisumu County.

Police say the body was found with signs that raised suspicion of possible assault, though investigations are still ongoing to establish the exact cause and circumstances of her death.

Officers from the Kisumu Regional Command responded to the scene and later launched a manhunt that led to the arrest of a suspect believed to have information about the incident.
