Homa Bay Woman Painfully Recalls Discovering Husband Had Another Wife After Returning from US

A woman from Homa Bay County has emotionally narrated how the man she trusted and loved allegedly misled her into marriage after claiming he was divorced, only for her to later discover she had become a second wife.

The touching revelation emerged during the burial ceremony of former Karachuonyo MCA Peter Kaula, where one of his wives shared details of their relationship journey and the painful truth she discovered after relocating from the United States to Kenya.

According to Akinyi, she met Kaula while living in the US, where she was pursuing her studies. She explained that before agreeing to marry him, she sought assurance that he was no longer married because she did not want to interfere with another woman’s marriage.

Akinyi said Kaula allegedly showed her divorce papers to convince her that he was legally separated from his former partner. Believing the documents and trusting his words, she accepted his proposal and began planning a future with him.

She revealed that Kaula also introduced her to his son, identified as William Abala, and requested her to love and care for the child as her own. The gesture reportedly strengthened her belief that they were building a genuine family together.

At the time, Akinyi was focused on education and career development in the United States. She had already completed her first degree and was reportedly in her third year of nursing school.

However, due to her love and commitment to Kaula, she made the difficult decision to abandon her studies and relocate to Kenya.

The woman disclosed that her parents strongly opposed the move because they felt she was sacrificing promising opportunities abroad.

Despite their concerns, she insisted on following the man she loved, hoping their relationship would flourish back home.

However, shortly after arriving in Kenya, she was shocked to discover that Kaula still had another wife living in the village. The revelation deeply hurt her because she had fully believed his claims that he was divorced.

Akinyi admitted that the discovery was emotionally painful and difficult to process. Nevertheless, with time, the family reportedly learned how to coexist peacefully despite the complicated circumstances surrounding the marriage.

During the emotional burial ceremony, mourners listened quietly as she narrated the experience that changed her life. Many sympathised with her for the sacrifices she made after leaving her studies and life in the US.

Peter Kaula, who served as the MCA for Karachuonyo, was remembered as a respected leader who contributed to development projects in the area.

Leaders and residents who attended the burial praised his dedication to public service and his role in local leadership.

The story has since sparked conversations online, with many Kenyans debating issues surrounding honesty in relationships, marriage expectations, and the sacrifices people make for love.
