In a statement released on May 5, the family confirmed that the former Kericho governor has been undergoing treatment at a medical facility in Eldoret during this period.
They expressed gratitude to leaders and members of the public who have visited him, offered financial assistance, and continued to support him through prayers.
According to the family, medical consultations and assessments have shown that Chepkwony now requires specialized treatment abroad.
This development prompted a decision to seek additional resources from well-wishers to meet the rising medical costs.
The appeal aims to raise over KSh 6 million to cater for the treatment expenses. The family emphasized that the amount is necessary to facilitate advanced care that is not currently available locally.
To support the initiative, a fundraising event has been organized and is scheduled to take place on Friday, May 8, 2026.
The event will be held at the Weston Hotel in Nairobi, with organizers inviting leaders, friends, and the public to contribute towards the cause.
In addition, well-wishers who are unable to attend the event physically have been encouraged to send their contributions through a designated paybill number under the account name set up for the medical fund.
Chepkwony served as the first governor of Kericho County from 2013 to 2022, completing two consecutive terms under Kenya’s devolved system of governance.
He was initially elected under the United Republican Party and later served his second term under the Jubilee Party.
Before joining politics, he built a strong academic career as an associate professor at Moi University, specializing in pharmaceutical chemistry.
He also holds a doctorate in the same field and is credited with several innovations in science and technology.
The family continues to urge Kenyans to support the appeal as efforts intensify to secure his treatment abroad
