"WANTAM" Chants Ring Out At Karen Hospital as Osotsi Walks Out To A Charged Political Reception

Supporters and political leaders gathered at Karen Hospital on Saturday, April 11, to accompany Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi upon his discharge, but the event quickly transformed into a charged political demonstration against President William Ruto’s administration.

Chants calling for a one-term presidency for Ruto erupted as the crowd dispersed, signaling rising political tensions ahead of the 2027 elections.

The chants followed a fiery press conference by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who had just concluded naming individuals he alleges were responsible for the brutal April 8 attack on Osotsi.

The heightened emotions from the press briefing appeared to spill over into the hospital scene, energizing both leaders and supporters present.

Osotsi, who had spent several days receiving treatment, walked out of the facility amid cheers and political slogans. His discharge came after he was assaulted by more than 15 men at a restaurant in Kisumu while meeting Senate staff.

The incident, captured on CCTV and widely circulated, sparked condemnation across the political divide. The senator was initially airlifted to Nairobi for treatment at Aga Khan University Hospital before being transferred to Karen Hospital for specialized care.

During his address, Owino alleged that a man identified as Lucas Otieno, also known as Dogo, orchestrated the attack by mobilizing a gang after spotting the senator.

He further accused Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo of financing and organizing the assault, claims that have intensified political debate.

Owino called for Omollo’s resignation and criticized the police for what he described as lenient handling of suspects.

The unfolding events have injected fresh momentum into the Linda Mwananchi movement, which appears determined to channel public outrage into political action.

Osotsi has already confirmed he will attend the movement’s rally in Nakuru on April 12, urging supporters to turn out in large numbers.
