Authorities in Kisumu County are investigating the death of Benter Apondi, a 21-year-old student at RIAT College, whose disappearance ended in tragedy after her body was discovered in the Milimani area days after she was reported missing.
According to DCI, her ex-boyfriend Okoth allegedly orchestrated the attack, her initial disappearance.
Her aunt, Arich Ndege, who has been actively involved in online appeals and search efforts since the day of her niece's disappearance, revealed what the suspect reportedly confessed to the authorities.
She explained that Okoth had conspired with two other individuals to commit the crime, luring her niece under the guise of assisting her in securing an internship opportunity.
According to reports, the murder suspect divulged this information after being interrogated by officers for a week.
“After an entire week of being uncommunicative, when he was finally questioned, the boy consented to detailing how he had coordinated the plan with the other two individuals.
He stated they picked Apondi up from her residence, pretending they would take her to someone who would help her with her internship,” Arich recounted.
A devastated Arich further shared that, as per Okoth’s account, Apondi was murdered around 1 PM.
Following her death, her assailants took her phone and later sent messages at midnight to her family, neighbors, and class representative using her device.
Arich mentioned that Okoth led the police to the location of the crime.
“They impersonated her, claiming she was in danger to manipulate the police into getting involved, which resulted in the incident being reported.
This boy has inflicted profound pain on community and disrupted numerous lives. He deserves the most severe punishment,” Arich declared.
