Police in Kimaeti Sub County, Bungoma County, are investigating a suspected murder after a 47-year-old househelp was gang-raped by four men before she later died while receiving treatment under unclear circumstances.
The victim, Janet Nasimiyu Wafula, had been admitted at Siboti Dispensary after being found unconscious, where medical staff later pronounced her dead on April 22 at around 9:00 a.m.
Reports indicate that Wafula was brought to the health facility on April 21 at about 7:30 a.m. by two unidentified individuals who left shortly after dropping her off.
She remained under medical care but did not survive.
Preliminary investigations show that Wafula was working as a househelp for a relative in the Mayanja Kibuke area when she was allegedly attacked by four unknown men.
Police believe she was gang raped during the incident before the assailants fled.
Authorities have not yet established the motive behind the attack.
Police officers who processed the scene collected forensic evidence, including a vaginal swab, which will undergo DNA analysis to assist in identifying the suspects.
Her body was transferred to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Investigations are ongoing as police continue efforts to trace the suspects and establish the full sequence of events leading to her death.
Officials have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward to aid the investigation.
