According to the family’s legal representative, Njanja Maina who spoke at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) farewell home, the examination exposed the brutal nature of the attack.
Maina confirmed that the injuries were largely concentrated on the right side of Imbukwa’s body describing them as very very severe.
Despite this, pathologists have not yet determined what specifically caused the injuries or how they ultimately led to his death.
Investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have since collected forensic samples as part of an ongoing effort to reconstruct the events leading up to the lawyer’s killing.
These samples are expected to play a key role in establishing whether the injuries were inflicted through assault, torture or another form of violence.
The family has urged patience, cautioning the public against speculation as investigations continue. They are scheduled to meet DCI officers in the coming days where authorities are expected to present further details, including crime scene documentation and CCTV footage analysis.
The killing has sparked outrage within Kenya’s legal community. The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has strongly condemned the incident calling for swift and credible investigations.
LSK President Charles Kanjama described the death as both tragic and alarming. He noted that early reports suggest Imbukwa may have been assaulted and tortured prior to being killed raising serious concerns about the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Kanjama emphasized the need for accountability urging anyone with information to come forward and assuring them of protection.
He also warned that all responsible parties including any potential state actors if implicated, must face the full force of the law.
As investigations continue, the focus now shifts to forensic results and surveillance evidence which may finally provide answers to what led to the brutal killing of Tom Ouya Imbukwa. Until then, both his family and colleagues remain in search of justice system.
