Photos of a young woman who was swept away by floodwaters in Nairobi have resurfaced online, as more details continue to emerge about her tragic death.
The woman, who has since been identified as Lilian Okore, is believed to have been carried away by fast-moving water during heavy rains that hit parts of the city on April 28, 2026.
Her body was later discovered in a trench in the Githurai area after days of searching and uncertainty.
The discovery brought sadness to residents and social media users who had been following the story and hoping she would be found alive.
According to reports from local residents, the body was spotted in a drainage trench between Zimmerman and Githurai.
Authorities were alerted, and the body was later taken to a mortuary to allow for identification. Family members later confirmed that the body was indeed that of Lilian Okore.
As news of her death spread, photos believed to be of Lilian began circulating widely on social media.
Many people shared the images while mourning her and expressing shock at how suddenly her life had been cut short.
Those who knew her described her as a friendly and hardworking woman who had once worked at ExpressWay Lounge in Thika as a hostess before moving on to pursue other opportunities.
Police officer based in Nakuru, Sammy Ondimu, also shared a message of condolence on behalf of the management and staff of ExpressWay Lounge.
In his message, he expressed deep sorrow over her death and asked for strength and comfort for her grieving family.
“On behalf of the management, staff, and friends of ExpressWay Lounge, we send our sincere condolences to her family, relatives, and friends during this painful moment. May God give you strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult time,” the message read.
Residents who witnessed the recovery of the body said it was a painful scene. Some noted that her phone was still found in her pocket.
