A former Eldoret traffic police officer, Andrew Moache, once found himself at the center of one of Kenya’s most shocking and tragic incidents after a confrontation that led to the death of newly elected Member of Parliament David Kimutai Too.
The incident, which happened in 2008, shocked the country and left many Kenyans questioning how a personal dispute could end in such a deadly outcome.
According to reports at the time, Andrew Moache confronted a woman identified as Eunice Chepkwony, whom he accused of infecting him with HIV/AIDS. The confrontation took place in Eldoret and quickly escalated into a tense and dangerous situation.
At the time of the incident, David Kimutai Too, who had just been elected as Member of Parliament, was inside a vehicle with Eunice Chepkwony.
Reports indicated that Moache also suspected that the MP was romantically involved with Eunice, which further fueled the confrontation.
Witnesses said the argument became heated, with emotions running high as the three individuals confronted each other.
During the confrontation, it was reported that the MP drew a firearm and shot at the police officer. In response, Moache also drew his weapon and returned fire.
As the situation unfolded, Eunice Chepkwony, who was also a police officer, attempted to draw her firearm. However, before she could shoot, Moache fired at her.
Both David Kimutai Too and Eunice Chepkwony died at the scene following the exchange of gunfire.
The incident left residents in Eldoret and across the country in shock, especially because the MP had only served in office for about one month after being elected in 2008 under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party.
