The hearse, which was heading to Kisumu to make burial arrangements, contained a number of people who were accompanied by the dead body of a woman, but things quickly took a tragic turn as the vehicle got out of control in an area characterized by a steep descent before ending up being overturned on the ground.
The force exerted by the hearse during the fatal accident was so strong that it caused the casket carrying the body of the dead woman to break apart, leaving her body exposed. The ghastly scenario was even more traumatizing for the injured survivors who had just lost their relative.
The emergency team comprising of police officers and other locals hurried to the site of the incident where they were to play a crucial role in the rescue of the survivors.
The injured were hospitalized while the corpses were sent to local morgues. Investigations are being carried out to establish the cause of the incident; it is thought that this could have been due to brake failure or overspeeding.
The leadership together with other stakeholders has offered sympathies to the bereaved, encouraging motorists to take care, especially when they travel with people in large numbers for long distances.
