"Arrest them all" Murkomen order nation wide crackdown on goons Targeting opposition

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has accused unnamed opposition leaders of hypocrisy in the fight against political violence, claiming that some of them are actively involved in recruiting young people to participate in organised disruption during political activities.

Speaking during a public security briefing, Murkomen stated: “Leading characters in recruiting these young people for violence are sitting in opposition,” a remark that has since sparked political debate and sharp reactions across the country.

The Interior CS criticised what he termed as double standards among political actors who publicly condemn violence while allegedly benefiting from groups that engage in intimidation and chaos during rallies and public events.

He warned that such practices undermine democratic freedoms and threaten national stability.

Murkomen further issued firm directives to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, instructing the National Police Service to take decisive action against organised gangs and individuals involved in political violence.

He emphasized that law enforcement agencies must act without fear or favour in restoring order and protecting citizens.

According to the CS, the government is committed to dismantling networks that recruit and mobilise youths for unlawful activities, particularly during politically sensitive periods.

He noted that such actions not only endanger lives but also derail peaceful political participation.

The remarks have triggered renewed political tension, with opposition-aligned voices previously accusing the government of selective enforcement and excessive policing during political gatherings.

Civil society groups have also urged restraint, calling for independent investigations and due process in handling allegations of political violence.

Security agencies have meanwhile intensified surveillance in areas identified as hotspots for political unrest, with authorities promising swift prosecution of those found culpable.

As the debate continues, the government maintains that its priority remains the protection of public order, enforcement of the law, and ensuring that all political activities are conducted in a peaceful and lawful manner a cross Kenya.
