A chilling road drama involving presidential aspirant Reuben Kigame has reignited national outrage over reckless driving on Kenya’s highways.
In a firsthand account shared shortly after the ordeal, Kigame revealed how a routine journey almost turned fatal in the blink of an eye.
The incident occurred at dawn near Shiru, along the Chavakali–Kapsabet road. Kigame and his team were en route to Eldoret when they encountered a speeding bus allegedly overtaking carelessly.
Blinded by full-beam headlights and confronted with the threat of a direct collision, the driver of the Prado made a split-second decision to swerve off the road, narrowly saving lives.
Though no one sustained serious injuries, Kigame emphasized that the outcome could have been catastrophic. He described the experience as a wake-up call, not just for him personally but for the entire country.
According to him, reckless driving by public service vehicles has become a deadly norm, especially during early-morning hours when roads appear deceptively clear.
The timing of the incident has only heightened emotions, coming barely a day after the nation mourned victims of a deadly crash in Nandi County.
Many Kenyans have taken to social media to express frustration, questioning how many lives must be lost before meaningful reforms are enforced on the roads.
Kigame appealed to road safety agencies to move beyond warnings and take decisive action against dangerous driving habits.
He also urged fellow motorists to remain defensive at all times, warning that even careful drivers can fall victim to another person’s recklessness.
As authorities remain silent on the specific incident, Kigame’s story continues to fuel debate about accountability, enforcement, and the urgent need to make Kenyan roads safer for everyone.
